Pressures put on today’s business from external forces are immense and only look to increase — particularly from a supply chain perspective. These growing pressures demand that functional leaders are more flexible AND take a more holistic view of the business — outside of their own world.

From a finance and procurement perspective, there is a real opportunity in working across functions, towards a more centralized approach to cost management — driving effectiveness, not just savings.

The key take-away from our research ( is that there is a massive opportunity to be had from managing your total cost base (labor AND non-labor) better — which, quite simply, many business leaders do not know exists or do not see how it fits in when looking at the bigger picture. It is ultimately procurement, with support and buy-in from finance, that need to educate the business of this opportunity, painting a picture of a brighter future — with procurement at the heart.
